Reader Profile Research

A reader profile is an analysis on the people who view different types of media, in this case it would be people who read music magazines. The reader profile will analysis what gender, race, income, location, and age the audience are but it will also include their personality type. These answers are found using demographic questions and psychographic questions. The demographic questions are the one that find the facts out about the reader and the psychographic questions are the ones that find out the audience personality and interests. These questions are then used to include things in the magazine that they know their audience will want to see and this will attract more people to buy their product.

The purpose of a reader profile is to gain insight to the reader of a magazine so the articles and advertisements can be personalised to the majority of the audience who are likely to find the advertisements and articles interesting and buy whatever is trying to be sold. It will also help sell the magazine as if the company who is wanting to create a magazine knows what people list to their music genre then they can target that specific group of people to increase sales.

The reader profile includes the age of the audience that buy the magazine so that they know which audience to target the magazine at and include things that only the specific age range will enjoy. As Rock Sound is targeted at 15-24 year olds then it will include things that this age group will enjoy more than a mature audience would.

The reader profile shows that more of the audience that buys this magazine is female. As the readers are 59% female the magazine will make some of their content targeted towards females more but they will still include things that males will also read and enjoy so they will still buy the magazine.

Even though this reader profile doesn't specifically include what social class their audience is, it is inferred that they are in ABC1 because the audience as a whole spend quite a lot of their money on concerts, gigs, and clothing.

Rock Sound are a British magazine that only bring out 13 magazines a year, which means that their audience is British in majority but as they have online users they also have a different minority audience from people around the world. This means that they would mainly cater to the British audience by giving them information on the bands from across the globe instead of ones they are more likely to know about.
