Front Cover Drafts

For my actual versions of my front cover I decided to keep the basic layout from my google mock up and just replace the picture with one of my original photographs. I chose the version of my google mock up that had the black and white masthead as I think that was the one that looked the best and that worked the best for alternative rock magazine. Once I had replaced the photograph with my own I added more of the conventions of a magazine. I included a plug on this version of my magazine, as I didn't include one on the mock up version, I kept the plug in the same colour scheme as the rest of the magazine. With each version of the magazine I edited it slightly as a way to improve it and find the one that looked the best. In some of the later versions of the front cover I decided to add a 3D effect to the cover star as something that could run as a theme through the photoshoot and the articles on this artist.

Original Photographs

These are the photographs I have taken for my cover photo. In these photographs I used all of the different outfits that i had planned, I used different angles such high angle and low angle, and I used different lighting. I also tried different shots such as medium shot, long shot, medium close, and medium long shot. From these photos I am going to chose which would be best for my front cover. The poses in these photographs have been inspired by the research I did into the alternative music genre. The expression on her face is quite sullen or smug, which is what is usually seen on magazine front covers for this music genre.

The photographs below are the ones that I think are the best and that would work better for my magazine front cover. These shots are a variation of different angles and shot lengths that would all work well for the front cover of a magazine. The photographs also shows the different outfit styles and the use of a prop. All of the poses and positions that she is stood in all work very well for my chosen genre of music and out of these photographs I will choose one that will be for my final front cover.

Camera Specifications

The camera that I will be using to take my original photographs is the Samsung WB1100F.

Planning for Original Photography

This is the person I am using for my front cover, she doesn't usually dress in a way that is associated with my chosen genre of music, as she is wearing a red shirt and blue jeans.

While trying to make her look more like a person what would be associated with alternative rock I tried different hair styles, this is one that I tried.
This is the second hairstyle that I tried, both of the first two that I tried both involved having her hair tied up but after seeing these styles it was decided that it would look better if her hair was not tied up and was down.

After trying the different hairstyles and finding the best one I used makeup on her to make her look more associated with the chosen music genre. I didn't want to use lots of makeup so I only used black around her eyes, as eyeliner is often associated with the bands I researched, and some dark lipstick, which is also associated with the women in this genre of music.

After completing the hair and makeup we tried different outfits to see which would work. I based these outfits from my research into the music genre, from my research on magazine front covers, and from my outfit design. I chose different outfits to give a range to the photos that I would end up with. First was just the plain black shirt, black jeans and boots, then the red plaid shirt was added over the top. The plaid shirt was worn with and without fingerless gloves and with the sleeves rolled up and down. The same was tried with the leather jacket, then both the shirt and jacket was used. After all of the different outfits used I decided that all of the different versions would work and I would take photographs of her dressed in all of them.
